FITBIT STEPS:
Mon: 14,730 steps – Run (3 mi), Walk (30 min)
Tue: 10,499 steps – Walk (30 min)
Wed: 19,066 steps – Run (4 mi)
Thurs: 18,264 steps – Run (3 mi), Walk (30 min)
Fri: 15,361 steps – Walk (45 min)
Sat: 20,303 steps – Run (6 mi)
Sun: 14,397 steps –  Run (3 mi)

I managed to get a run or walk in every day last week, and set a new PR for myself on Saturday by running my first 6 miles straight. After running Sunday, too, I was feeling pretty sore this morning and opted to take the day off from running, to let my muscles recover. I usually love starting the week off with a run, but I have learned to listen to my body, and knew a run this morning would have been a bad idea. I hope to get a walk in later today, then back to running in the morning!

 Bookish and Non-Bookish Thoughts

  • It was a great weekend. Yesterday was National Book Lover’s Day, and I got to finish a book in celebration. It’s always a good weekend when I can finish a book!
  • The book I finished was In a Dark, Dark Wood and, although the first half was a bit of a struggle for me (I wasn’t a fan of any of the characters), once I hit about the 60% mark, the suspense kicked up a notch and things got really interesting. Enough for me to keep reading and enjoy it from that point on. I fear the Black-Eyed Susans has set impossibly high expectations for all future suspense novels I pick up. 😉
  • Before We Were Strangers is getting serious praise right now, and it’s a new-to-me author. I’ve had the ARC from Netgalley for awhile, and the buzz had me picking it up last week. I only got a few chapters into it, but I am loving the writing style. I also started my first McMahon book, The Night Sister, and so far, so good. It definitely has my attention, and I hope it ends up being as creepy as it sounds.
  • I ordered the decorations and gifts for Sunnie’s 5th birthday, which is only a few weeks away. My baby is growing up too fast, and I can hardly believe she’s turning 5! She asked for a Paw Patrol themed party – which is a cartoon on Nick Jr. that she loves. And next week we have our parent meeting at her preschool. Slow down, time!
  • It was a pretty low-key weekend, which is always nice. I’m thankful to have gotten off work early on Friday, because it was perfect weather to take Sunnie to the park. The weather’s been very cooperative lately.
  • And now I’m off to finish my lunch and maybe get a little reading in. Have a great week!

newbook

I always see other people go to a bookstore and get lucky to find a new release that has been put out on the shelves early. This book isn’t scheduled to release until August 11, but Books a Million had it out on the shelves yesterday, so I grabbed a copy! This author wrote one of my favorite books of all time, The Edge of Never, and I hope this book is equally as good!

FITBIT STEPS:
Mon: 20,218 steps – Run (4 mi), Walk (30 min)
Tue: 12,548 steps – Walk (60 min)
Wed: 18,004 steps – Run (4 mi), Walk (20 min)
Thurs: 18,742 steps – Run (4 mi)
Fri: 10,768 steps – Rest Day
Sat: 12,690 steps – Run (3 mi)
Sun: 17,733 steps –  Run (4 mi)

It was a good week, and I took my first day off from exercise in a long time. I know it’s good to rest, and my body really needed it. I still hit my step goal just from normal activity that day, so that helped with the guilt of not actually working out. Lol. 😉

 Bookish and Non-Bookish Thoughts

  • It pains me to say that I’m not loving Playing Dead like I did Black-Eyed Susans. The pace is MUCH slower, and it’s not as creepy or suspenseful. I think because it’s a slower read, I’m starting to lose interest and could care less what happens. Which sucks, especially when I’m 60% into the book. Being so invested, I won’t DNF now – but I REALLY hope it gets exciting soon. Or else I’m going to skim to the end to get it over with. A real bummer.
  • Because this book is so slow, it’s put me into another reading slump. I hate that. Hoping to finish this one tonight, and that the next book I pick up is better at keeping my attention.
  • I signed up for Bout of Books 14! It’s such a fun week – make sure you sign up!
  • The weekend started out a bit rough with my peanut not feeling well. For over a week she’s been fighting some type of summer cold/allergies, and the worst of it hit her on Friday night through Saturday night. Sunnie is VERY active and constantly on the move, so I know she’s not feeling well when all she wants to do is lay around and watch movies. We stayed in all day Saturday so she could get some much needed rest, and by Sunday morning she was back to being our perky, happy girl. She’s still fighting a little bit of the cold, but it’s not bringing her down like it did on Saturday, thankfully.
  • Sunday, since she was feeling so much better, and we had gorgeous weather again, we played outside most of the morning/early afternoon. She spent most of the time in her sandbox, because we’d gotten new sand for it and moved it to a better part of our yard. It was like getting a new toy and she was super excited. While she took a nap in the afternoon, momma got to lay out and get a little bit of sun. I wasn’t hating life, that’s for sure. 😉

  • Originally, my parents had asked for Sunnie to spend the night on Saturday, but it didn’t happen because of her not feeling well. They asked again on Sunday, and Sunnie, never forgets ANYTHING and loves sleepovers at her grandparents house, so she asked me first thing in the morning if she could go, because she was feeling better. My parents are so great with her, and I know how lucky we are that they love and want to spend so much time with her, not to mention I never have to worry when she’s with them. We took her over last night for her sleepover and my sweet hubby took me to dinner, to the bookstore, and to get ice cream. He knows the way to my heart! 🙂

Sunnie was our little photographer. She was giggling so hard taking our picture that she had us cracking up. She got some really good shots – I was impressed!

  • It’s going to be a busy work week, so here’s to lots of coffee and hopefully some walks over my lunches to break up the day! Oh, and getting out of my reading slump!

Pretty happy I hit 20K several times last week! It wasn’t a goal I had set, it just happened thanks to the beautiful weather and taking walks on my lunch breaks, in addition to my morning workouts.

I’m noticing that my body needs more fuel these days, because I’m a lot hungrier than I used to be. I’ve been in the maintaining weight mode for awhile, but I don’t think I’m eating enough to make up for everything I’m burning with my workouts. It’s causing fatigue and this feeling that I’m always starving. I’m trying to play around with my calories to find a balance that won’t show weight gain, but will burn the fat instead of what little muscle I’m gaining. Everything I’ve read says to eat back at least half the calories you burn every day, so your body isn’t starving. If anyone has any other pointers, please send them my way!

I will admit that one of the reasons I work out is to eat more, because I love food. I have changed a lot of my eating habits so that I’m making healthier choices and eating a LOT better than I have in my life, but I still love to eat. And drink wine, of course.

I posted this for #facetofacefriday, and sometimes I still can’t believe that was me, a little over a year ago. Hard work and discipline does pay off.

 Bookish and Non-Bookish Thoughts

  • I finished God-Shaped Hole, and although I enjoyed it, it wasn’t a WOW read like I hoped it would be. Definitely more mature writing, which I loved. This author is seriously talented, and I will read her other books. I think the issue is that I’m still in a ‘must read all the suspense’ mood. I shouldn’t have picked up an emotional love story when I wasn’t in the mood for it. Cause any other time, I would have been sobbing by the end of this book, and I was just like ‘meh’. Me, the sappy girl who cries at everything. Clearly I wasn’t in the right frame of mind for this one.
  • That brings me to which suspense novel am I going to start next?! I have a few new ones that I’m trying to choose between. DECISIONS.
  • I have also been drawn to adding more historical fiction to my TBR list, thanks to several GR friends recommendations. Same with cozy mysteries, after Kathy @ Kathy Reads Fiction posted about them here. Can you believe I’ve never read a cozy mystery?
  • Being a parent is by far the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do, and also the most rewarding. This weekend had some serious struggles, and I’m constantly worrying if I’m doing a good enough job. A friend posted this on Facebook, and it was very fitting for how I’ve been feeling lately.

  • Another beautiful weekend, weather-wise! We spent lots of time in the pool, and it was wonderful. Yesterday was a low key day at home, recovering from all the sun exposure and getting a much needed nap. Now I’m ready to take on the week! It’s going to be a hot one. Hope everyone stays cool and has a great week!

FITBIT STEPS:
Mon: 13,439 steps – Walk (60 min)
Tue: 13,064 steps – Run (3 mi)
Wed: 16,198 steps – Run (3 mi)
Thurs: 12,455 steps – Walk (60 min)
Fri: 16,930 steps – Walk (60 min), cleaned house
Sat: 17,330 steps – Run (5 mi)
Sun: 14,235 steps –  Run (3 mi)
Because of my schedule during the week, I’m finding that I can only get 4 runs in. My goal each week is 5, but this week it just didn’t happen. I always plan at least one long run on the weekend for sure, and then I did get up before work two days and run. Friday I had planned on getting up early to run, but I’ve been feeling a little run down (stupid allergies), and decided a full 8 hours of sleep was more important. I also miss getting outside to run, but with not having someone to watch my daughter (my hubby is usually gone in the mornings before I can run) and the humidity (again – stupid allergies make me miserable in the humidity), I’ve had no choice but to run on my treadmill. My goal in the next few weeks is to find a day in our schedule when my hubby will be home, and I can get outside for a run.
What I AM proud of is that I have exercised every day (either a run or walk) for over a month. I can say that has never happened in my life. Ever. Even on my ‘rest’ days, which are typically on Friday, I try to at least walk for 30 minutes minimum. Just to get over 10,000 steps. Add cleaning the house and doing the dreaded grocery shopping – I’d say that qualifies as exercise for one day!

 Bookish and Non-Bookish Thoughts

  • We saw the SUN this weekend! And it was glorious. Spent a few hours on Saturday at my MIL’s pool. Then my parents asked for Sunnie to come over Saturday night and sleep over, so hubby and I got an impromptu date night. We went to a yummy Italian place and ate on the patio. Sunday was brutally humid out. We tried to play outside in spurts until Sunnie would tell me she was sweating and wanted to go back inside. Overall, the weekend was a lot of fun, and I was glad we got to spend some of it outside.
  • Finished reading Black-Eyed Susans, and I now have a new favorite suspense author. This book was creepy and suspenseful, and I loved every minute of it.
  • I started When Cicadas Cry, and I am enjoying it, but just don’t think I’m in the mood for this type of book. I’m thinking of putting it aside to start a suspense/thriller, because that’s all I’ve been in the mood for these days. I’m also intrigued by Vanguard, which is getting a lot of attention since it’s release yesterday. It sounds interesting and different. I like different.
  • I made this steak fajita recipe last night, and it was a big hit with my hubby. I put my own spin on it – not adding in all the fancy seasoning and just using a fajita seasoning packet (Old El Paso), soy sauce, and instead of bell peppers I put in hot peppers (hubby’s favorite). It smelled amazing in the crock pot all day, and was really tasty. SO easy, and it’s nice to be able to add a new meal into rotation. I get sick of eating the same stuff all the time.
  • The weather is promising this week – high temps and lots of sunshine. I hope to get home early enough every day to lay out a little bit and enjoy it.

Hope you all have a great week!

Wed: 11,001 steps – Walk
Thurs: 14,113 steps – Run

Another 5 mile run this weekend and new PR on time – I was pretty happy about that! It feels good to push myself and keeps me motivated to work harder. I had the minor cyst surgery on Tuesday morning, so I made sure to get up early and get a run in before I had to be to the hospital. I was a bit sore the next day, so I stuck to just walking. It’s not bothering me too much, and I’m back to my normal running schedule. Even though I ran 4 days last week, I prefer to make it 5 days and am striving to hit that goal this week. After a long run yesterday, I’m giving myself a rest day today and plan on a long walk this evening.

I find that being back to work (and sitting/standing at a desk all day) kills my step count. When I was on vacation, I was on the go a lot, constantly moving, and probably had my best step week ever. Which maybe defeats the purpose of ‘vacation’, but whatever. 😉

I also got the Bondi Band I won in a #FitReaders giveaway, and I love it!

 Bookish and Non-Bookish Thoughts

  • While on vacation, I finished several really great books. I highly recommend the upcoming Jennifer Weiner book – it’s not her typical chick lit style (not saying that’s a bad thing!). Very emotional, and a wonderful read. I’m also working through the rest of the Sarah Jio novels I haven’t read and loving every single one. Two more to go – The Bungalow and The Last Camellia. Which one do you recommend I read next?
  • I am excited to be a part of the Booking Through Summer Reading Challenge and posted a Mini Challenge yesterday. Please check it out and enter to win a $10 Amazon gift card! I used to love summer reading programs and Book It when I was a kid, and these challenges are a fun way to relive those days. 🙂

  • I started two books over the weekend. One is Black-Eyed Susans, and I am really enjoying it so far. Great suspense, which is all I’ve been craving lately. Also started Arsen, and I’m not too far, but it seems promising.
  • We had a pretty great weekend. Friday night was spent at a local Italian/American Festival where Sunnie loved the rides and got to play a game where she won her own prize. She was pretty proud of that. Saturday we had some rare beautiful weather, and one of my best friends invited me to come with her to a local parade that her son was in for the Boy Scouts. Sunnie loves parades, and it gave me time to catch up with my dear friend, which was much needed! And Sunday was a really perfect day of relaxing. It was raining (again – seriously, we’ve had enough), so any plans to be outside were nixed. We got up early and went to breakfast. When we got home, I had a long run followed by a nap. Then hubby made dinner and we just enjoyed a lazy evening of reading and watching TV. We stayed up a little too late, and I am paying for it now while I’m trying not to go for a third cup of coffee.
  • This week’s forecast is calling for more rain (ugh), but by the weekend they’re saying sunshine and possible 90 degree temps! I go back to my doctor on Wednesday to have the stitches removed from my cyst surgery, and I’m really hoping he clears me for the pool. 😉

Hope you all have a great week!
