Five Things Friday ~ 3-24-17

Hey, I’m on time this week! How about that…

1. this week in reading

I seriously hated this book in the beginning. It is overly wordy, and the characters repeat themselves way too much. But I pushed through, and now I’m glad I did. I started enjoying it around the 35% mark, and it keeps getting better for me.

But now I want to know if all the authors other books are like that? Super long and unnecessarily wordy? I own a couple more of her books on my Kindle.

2. New Books I’m excited about

I went on a bit of a book buying spree on Amazon this week. Some of these I ordered hard copies and the others are Kindle versions. I’ve been going back and forth between physical books and my Kindle a lot more lately, whereas I used to be all eBooks all the time.

3. fun thing(s) from the week

I got to run outside, at the park, one night this week! Our weather has finally taken a turn for the good (hopefully). Tuesday I was able to get home early enough to get my butt to the park and get in 3 miles before the sun disappeared. And boy did I feel it the next day – when you haven’t run outside in awhile, it works way different muscles than the treadmill.

4. life happens

My daughter has been sick just about every other week this year, and I’m seriously fed up. After getting over strep just a week ago, she got pink eye this week (third time this year), and then last night was up most of the night with a horrible cough. I’m over it!! I will be happy when summer gets here and we can go more than a week without some sort of illness plaguing our house.

5. looking ahead

This weekend we don’t have much planned, besides my normal cleaning and grocery shopping. I’ve been craving TGI Friday’s for a few days, so I may talk my hubby into going there for dinner one night. 😉 I also need to start spring cleaning my house – but I may save that for when I’m home with Sunnie over her Spring Break in a few weeks. I am one of those weirdos who loves to spring clean.

cheers!

Five Things Friday…on Sunday ~ 3-19-17

I’m a few weeks behind on my Friday posts, and this past Friday got away from me again. I have a little time this morning while I’m drinking my coffee, so it’s time to catch up!

1. this week in reading

The last book I finished, and I devoured it in 2 days. I was surprised by how much I loved it, and definitely recommend.

There was a preview for this movie before Beauty and the Beast, and it made me want to read the book. We had to make a stop at Target after the movie, and they had one copy of this book left, on sale. I couldn’t pass it up. I ended up starting it last night, and I’m over half way through it. I was struggling with what to read – nothing was holding my attention. I’m glad this one called to me!

2. New Books I’m excited about

I’m a few weeks behind on my book hauls, and I’ve received some awesome book lately. Really excited for all of these.

3. fun thing(s) from the week

It was another great week at work. I’m really loving the change in routine and part time hours. Took Sunnie to see Beauty and the Beast yesterday, and we loved it! They did such a fantastic job keeping it true to the original.

4. life happens

After practically no snow for months, mother nature decided to dump a ton of it last week. Of course we’d finally have winter in March, when we’re all ready for spring. I hope that’s the last winter surprise we get. I am ready to put away my boots for awhile.

5. looking ahead

Today is laundry day – I’ve got a mountain of it to catch up on. And I’m hoping to finish reading Everything Everything. Tomorrow is a work from home day, which also means a quiet day where I may be able to get some reading time. 😉 The rest of the week is pretty status quo for us – nothing much outside of the normal routine, and that’s fine by me!

Happy Sunday!

cheers!

1. this week in reading

I’m finally reading Harry Potter again. I read the first few books about 7 years ago and decided this is the year I finally finish this series. To be honest, it was following J.K. Rowling and her awesomeness on Twitter that gave me the kick in the pants I needed. Also a sweet deal for the box set on Book Outlet.

3. fun thing(s) from the week

Work may not seem like fun to most people, but I started my new job this week, and I’m really enjoying it. I worked more hours than originally planned, but that was mostly due to the fact my new laptop wasn’t set up correctly and the help desk had to spend a lot of time working out the kinks. It resulted in a few extra hours and later days, but now everything is fixed and working (KNOCK ON WOOD). I ended up getting to work from home on Wednesday, and got to leave today at 2:00. Now I sit here blogging and drinking a glass of wine. 😉 Plus I’m off on Monday, so yay!

Sunnie got her second report card from school, and I am so proud of her. I know it’s just kindergarten, but she loves school and it makes this momma happy.

I just signed my hubby and I up for our first 5K race together!! The race is on Mother’s Day weekend, and it’s a race I ran last year and loved. I’m really excited to be able to share that experience with him for his first race!

4. life happens

I have been trying to get back into a running routine after being sick two weeks and being on vacation. Although I did get a lot of steps while walking around Disney 2 days! My goal is always to run at least 5 days a week, and as long as I get a run in tomorrow morning, I will meet my goal for this week.

5. looking ahead

This weekend is our first dance competition! We are staying in the Youngstown area on Saturday and the girls have to dance bright and early on Sunday morning. Sunnie is so excited, not only to dance, but to stay in a hotel and hang out with her friends. And I’m excited to hang out with my girlfriends, too. One of the perks of Sunnie doing this competition thing is the friendships I’ve made with the other moms. It’ll be a fun couple of days!

And tonight my parents asked to have Sunnie for a sleepover – so the hubby and I are spending a much needed relaxing evening at home. The fire is going, the wine is flowing, and hubby is making me dinner (rigatoni with homemade meatballs…yum!). While he catches up on his tv shows, I plan to read and just enjoy the downtime. It feels like weeks since the last night we got to relax, so I’m going to enjoy every minute of it!

Happy Friday and enjoy your weekend!

cheers!

Both were highly anticipated reads, and both were just meh. Kind of a bummer.

This one is getting a lot of good attention lately, so I picked it up a few nights ago. I’m telling ya, I need this book to be fantastic and get me out of my reading funk!

3. fun thing(s) from the week

On Monday we told Sunnie about going to Disney. She had the most precious reaction. To say she’s excited is an understatement! She has been counting down the days. Being the OCD person that I am, I’ve already gotten the suitcase out and started packing. To be able to wear shorts for a couple days will be awesome! The weather is looking to be fantastic while we’re down there.

And today I’m going to Sunnie’s school to help with her Valentine’s Party all afternoon. I love being in her classroom whenever I can.

4. life happens

I went from a small flu bug to a cold virus, so that has been real fun. I was so worried it was a sinus infection and I didn’t want to be sick on vacation, so I went to stat care earlier in the week. Of course it’s viral (that’s their answer to everything), and they wouldn’t give me anything for it. All I wanted was a damn ZPACK! Those things work miracles. Alas, I have been taking Sudafed and after a few days of absolute misery, I’m feeling human again today! Human enough to disinfect the house and clean it. The only down side is I still have a slight cough, and I’ve completely lost my voice. I don’t think my hubby would call that a downside. 😉

5. looking ahead

Tomorrow I plan on surprising Sunnie and taking her to get ‘manicures’, which translates to just having her nails painted. I want to get mine done too – I thought it would be a fun girly thing to do before we leave for Florida. I’ve never taken her before, so it should be fun.

And then Monday morning we get up bright and early and have to be at the airport by 5 am for our flight. Disney, here we come!

You won’t see a Wednesday post from me next week, but I’ll hopefully be back with a post on Friday.

Happy Friday and enjoy your weekend!

cheers!

It’s really good, and I’m 3/4 the way done with it. I have NO idea where it’s going, and I love that I’m clueless.

3. fun thing(s) from the week

Disney trip is booked! We are spending a day at Hollywood Studios, a day at Magic Kingdom, and a day in Downtown Disney. Skipping Animal Kingdom and Epcot because they just aren’t places I think Sunnie will care much about. Plus 3 days is plenty for us. I am so excited and can’t wait to tell Sunnie. I ordered a Disney shirt that has her name on it – we’re going to give that to her and tell her the big news.

4. life happens

Sunnie is getting over a cold, and thankfully seems a lot better today. I got a round of the cold/flu bug yet again and have been taking medicine for the past few days trying to kick it. It’s now all in my head/ears, and I really hope it’s not turning into a sinus infection. It’s put a little damper on my week, as I haven’t been able to run/workout for several days. I really hate when my running schedule gets out of wack from being sick. I think I need to take one more day of rest, but am hoping tomorrow I’ll feel more like myself and be able to run.

5. looking ahead

I went into the office yesterday afternoon to train for a few hours on my new job. Have another training afternoon on Monday. Then on Friday I’ll be going to Sunnie’s class in the afternoon for her Valentine’s Party. I’m really looking forward to that! All the days in between I’m hoping to READ READ READ. I seriously haven’t read nearly as much as I wanted to while I’ve been off work.

Happy Friday and enjoy your weekend!

cheers!
