Five Things Friday ~ 4-21-17

1. this week in reading

I finished this one last night. It was a very unique story, and I love Laura Dave’s writing style. Even when I wasn’t loving the story, I was still completely invested and didn’t want to put it down. I didn’t feel any connection to Sunshine – I just didn’t have much sympathy for her and her life choices. So, that took away some of my enjoyment of the book. In the end, I’m still glad I read it, and I’ll still read every book Dave writes.

2. New Books I’m excited about

3. fun thing(s) from the week

Hello, gorgeous weather! We’ve spent many evenings sitting outside and going for walks. It has been in the mid to upper 70’s all week, and I love it! This morning I was able to go to the park for a run. Feels good to get some fresh air! All the extra walking and being outside has helped me surpass my step count goals all week.

4. life happens

After an awesome spring break, we’re back to our normal routines, and I had a busy week at work. I was in the office most days this week, but usually only 5 or 6 hours which still allows me time to get other things done at home.  The next couple of weeks I’ll be working from home most days, which will be really nice. If the weather cooperates I hope to get in some more runs at the park!

5. looking ahead

This weekend we don’t have much on the agenda. My hubby has a fishing tournament, and the weather is supposed to cool way down for a few days. I plan to get the grocery shopping over with first thing tomorrow (best time to go is 7am – practically no one is there!) and then do a whole lot of relaxing.

PS – I need some easy crockpot meal ideas. Preferably with beef or pork (my husband isn’t a fan of chicken). I’ve been slacking on the meal planning, and I’m really sick of everything I normally make. Please give me your recommendations!

Have a great weekend!

1. this week in reading

A friend recommended this book/author to me, and I loved it.

3. fun thing(s) from the week

Spring break week has been wonderful. Started the week with Sunnie’s dance team winning first place at their competition. Then we went to the Children’s Museum in Pittsburgh with my best friend and her daughter. Later in the week we tried out the local Sky Zone (trampoline place). Today we made a trip to the used bookstore, stopped for fro-yo and went for a walk, because the weather is gorgeous!

4. life happens

It was a good thing I took Sunnie to the doctor last Friday, because she did end up having strep. But after a day on the medicine she was feeling great. My hubby ended up going to the dr for the same thing. I’ve been hearing a lot of great things about using essential oils to help with sinus issues, so I went today and stocked up at the local health store!

5. looking ahead

Tonight we’re going to a favorite local grille for dinner and then having a fire. It’s perfect spring weather! Tomorrow night we promised Sunnie to color eggs. And Sunday we’ll be visiting family for Easter.

Happy Easter and have a great weekend!

cheers!

1. this week in reading

I’m underwhelmed. It’s an easy read, and it’s holding my attention. But it’s not like oh-my-god-I-love-this.

2. New Books I’m excited about

3. fun thing(s) from the week

I was in the office Monday through Wednesday and they were busy days. The new job is still going really well, and I’m loving it. And I treated myself to a new purse and a manicure this week. 😉

4. life happens

I’m taking Sunnie into the doctor this morning. She is fighting a cold yet again, and I’m worried it’ll turn into strep or a sinus infection or worse. Especially when we’re going to be out of town tonight and tomorrow. I’m so ready for spring break next week and giving her a break from all the germs! On Tuesday she said there were 6 kids in her class out sick. UGH!

5. looking ahead

Later today Sunnie and I are heading to Columbus for her next dance competition. We’re going down with our friends, and stopping at The Cheesecake Factory for dinner on the way. I’m definitely looking forward to that! She dances tomorrow at noon, so we’ll be home in the evening sometime. Hoping the girls do great and have fun!

cheers!

How is it almost April already?!

1. this week in reading

Nora Roberts books are like comfort food. This wasn’t my favorite of hers, but I still enjoyed it.

2. New Books I’m excited about

3. fun thing(s) from the week

It hasn’t been a very eventful week. Normal routine and that’s a good thing! I worked from home on Wednesday and was able to finish the book I was reading – that was definitely the highlight of my week. 😉

4. life happens

I got a little too excited about the nice weather we were having last week and may have overdone it on the running. I was doing so good sticking to 5 days a week and keeping my mileage consistent. Then I tried to squeeze in as many runs at the park as I could while the weather was so perfect, and it was one run too many – my hamstring is very unhappy. I’ve had to cool it this week and take extra rest days, which I hate doing, but I can’t risk popping it again and being restricted for months like I did in the fall. When it used to be really hard for me to find motivation to do any kind of exercise, now it’s really hard for me to take a day off from it! I guess that’s a good thing.

5. looking ahead

This weekend my best friend’s having a birthday party for her daughter, so we’ll be going over there on Saturday. Besides those plans the rest of the weekend is up in the air. Hubby will be fishing and has a tournament on Sunday. So, Sunnie and I will just be hanging out!

cheers!

Five Things Friday ~ 3-24-17

Hey, I’m on time this week! How about that…

1. this week in reading

I seriously hated this book in the beginning. It is overly wordy, and the characters repeat themselves way too much. But I pushed through, and now I’m glad I did. I started enjoying it around the 35% mark, and it keeps getting better for me.

But now I want to know if all the authors other books are like that? Super long and unnecessarily wordy? I own a couple more of her books on my Kindle.

2. New Books I’m excited about

I went on a bit of a book buying spree on Amazon this week. Some of these I ordered hard copies and the others are Kindle versions. I’ve been going back and forth between physical books and my Kindle a lot more lately, whereas I used to be all eBooks all the time.

3. fun thing(s) from the week

I got to run outside, at the park, one night this week! Our weather has finally taken a turn for the good (hopefully). Tuesday I was able to get home early enough to get my butt to the park and get in 3 miles before the sun disappeared. And boy did I feel it the next day – when you haven’t run outside in awhile, it works way different muscles than the treadmill.

4. life happens

My daughter has been sick just about every other week this year, and I’m seriously fed up. After getting over strep just a week ago, she got pink eye this week (third time this year), and then last night was up most of the night with a horrible cough. I’m over it!! I will be happy when summer gets here and we can go more than a week without some sort of illness plaguing our house.

5. looking ahead

This weekend we don’t have much planned, besides my normal cleaning and grocery shopping. I’ve been craving TGI Friday’s for a few days, so I may talk my hubby into going there for dinner one night. 😉 I also need to start spring cleaning my house – but I may save that for when I’m home with Sunnie over her Spring Break in a few weeks. I am one of those weirdos who loves to spring clean.

cheers!
