About the book

Sayer Cole and Zeb Fuller couldn’t be more different. She’s country club and fine-dining, he’s cell-block and sawdust. Sayer spends her days in litigation, while Zeb spends his working with his hands. She’s French silk, he’s all denim and flannel.

Zeb’s wanted the stunning blonde since the moment he laid eyes on her. It doesn’t matter how many smooth moves he makes, the reserved lawyer seems determinedly oblivious to his interest—either that or she doesn’t return it. Sayer is certain the rough, hard, hot-as-hell Zeb could never want someone as closed off and restrained as she is, which is a shame because something tells her he might be the guy to finally melt her icy exterior.

But just as things start to heat up, Zeb is blindsided by a life altering moment from his past. He needs Sayer’s professional help to right a wrong and to save more than himself. He can’t risk what’s at stake just because his attraction to Sayer feels all consuming. But as these opposites dig in for the fight of their lives, battling together to save a family, the steam created when fire and ice collide can no longer be ignored.Sayer Cole and Zeb Fuller are as different as two people can be. She’s country club and fine-dining, he’s cell-block and kill it and grill it. Sayer spends her days in litigation, while Zeb spends his working with his hands. She’s French silk while he’s denim and flannel.

The differences between the two of them don’t stop Zeb from dropping every hint he can think of that he would like to get to know her on a more personal level, but Sayer seems oblivious to his interest or is just too nice to tell him to take a hike. To Sayer, a guy like Zeb could never be interested in someone as reserved and boring as she is. She’s never been with anyone that was hot enough to melt the icy exterior she’s had wrapped around hera since her awful childhood. But what if Zeb is the one who might finally thaw her out…?

My Thoughts

I think it’s safe to say my tastes in certain genres has changed. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, but it kind of frustrates me, because I really wanted to love this book after seeing so many people raving about it on Goodreads. I have read several books by this author (granted, that was a few years ago), and loved them. They ended up on my favorite books list. I was in the mood for romance with some erotica, so I decided to try this one. Although the story line itself was really good, it was way too drawn out and overly detailed for my liking. Especially during all the sexy times. I get the point – an entire chapter dedicated to it is unnecessary. In addition to that, I wanted to strangle the heroine. I understood she had valid issues, but eventually you gotta get over it and she drove me batty.

I’m making it sound like this book was terrible, and it really wasn’t. I read the last half of the book in one sitting last night because I was enjoying it, for the most part. The story itself was really good, and Zeb was a wonderful character – I just could’ve done without the unnecessary details and rehashing the same things over and over.

I love a good romance with erotica, but clearly I’m getting burnt out on NA. Think I need to give it a break for awhile.

Books I’m Thankful For – Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the Broke and the Bookish. Today’s theme is a Thanksgiving Freebie to do with whatever we choose.

It goes without saying how much I love reading, books, the authors that bring us so many amazing books, the escape it gives me, Goodreads for keeping me organized, my Kindle, and this wonderful book blogging community and all the friendships I’ve made. I’m extremely grateful for being a part of such a wonderful community that allows me to be me.

For today’s TTT, I decided to list all of the books that have opened my eyes to new genres and authors over the years. These books top my favorites list, and I’m so thankful to have read them. They’ve connected me with other readers and bloggers over the years, as well. Without so many awesome books in my life, I wouldn’t have that much needed escape that I love, and for that I’m extremely thankful!

Surrounded by controversy, and maybe not the most well-written series in the world (and I hate love triangles, so how did I see past all of that?!), but this series means a lot to me. It introduced me to a new genre, as I had never read anything paranormal or fantasy before. It gave me a common bond with a lot of my close friends, where we discussed the books and movies regularly. It was an obsession of mine for many years, the books and the movies. I enjoyed reading before this series, but Stephenie Meyer lit a fire in me and helped me rediscover just how much I loved to read.

13372690

This book not only gave me my favorite author, but it introduced me to a love of New Adult romance and indie books. I just happened to be browsing Amazon looking for something new to read the day I one-clicked this baby. And to say it changed reading for me is a major understatement.

15925

My first major author love goes to Nicholas Sparks. Before CoHo, his books were the ones I ALWAYS had to own (in hardback no less), and I got so excited for a new release. I may have outgrown my Sparks phase, but my love of romance novels is all thanks to him.

17453983

Only the cutest YA book EVER. I wasn’t a big fan of YA at all until I picked up this book. What a big wonderful world it opened my eyes to. I have read some really fantastic YA contemporary novels over the years, and I thank Stephanie Perkins for giving me my favorite YA book still to date.

23774

I used to read a lot of Chick Lit and found many favorite authors along the way. Even though I may be out of that phase at the moment, I feel like these books shaped my love of reading. I’m still a loyal Emily Giffin fan, and look forward to her new releases.

Haters gonna hate, but it’s all thanks to E L James that I discovered a genre that I love, and then two of my absolute favorite series. I remember finishing the 50 Shades books and immediately going to Amazon to try to find more books similar to it. Amazon recommended Gabriel’s Inferno and Bared to You, which are two of my favorite series. So, thank you E L James, for introducing me to a new genre and in turn giving me some of my favorite books of all time.

18803161

Although Sarah Jio‘s books have been out for years, I never had the desire to pick one up until I read this one. Which led me to a new author obsession. I believe I have Netgalley to thank for this by approving an ARC and in turn introducing me to an author I’ve come to adore.

24688274

Exceptional books like this one are the reason why I LOVE suspense novels. I have loved a lot of suspense novels and authors over the years, but this is my most recent favorite.

18081809 18775359

I only recently in the past year discovered a new type of adult contemporary novel most call marriage-in-crisis. I admit that I would have never picked up a book described as that in the past, but Landline and Rainbow Rowell helped me to be more open-minded, and because of this book, I have discovered Taylor Jenkins Reid, another favorite author. These books were emotional reads that I needed in my life at that moment in time. Books that make you think and appreciate what you have in life. Both of them have a special place in my heart and are books I recommend to everyone.

22663563

Last but not least, Kristin Hannah has been impressing me with her fantastic writing for years. Some of my all time favorite books are her books, and there’s no doubt they all pack an emotional punch. It was most recently The Nightingale that left a lasting impression on my heart. I not only found a new love for historical fiction, thanks to this book, but I was blown away by the powerful and incredible story. It’s one I think every single bookworm should read at some point in their life. Even non-historical fiction readers like myself will appreciate the message Hannah so perfectly conveys in this stunning novel.

So, there you have it. The books and authors that have shaped my love of reading over the years. I’m thankful they have given me so many wonderful books to love that have left a lasting impression on my heart.

Arouse by Nina Lane

3 Stars

Struggling with a tormented past, undergraduate Olivia Winter once led a practical but isolated life. Then she met Professor Dean West, a brilliant scholar of medieval history who melted Liv’s inhibitions and taught her the meaning of both love and erotic pleasure. But after three years of a blissful, lusty marriage, Liv and Dean now face a crisis that threatens everything they believe about each other. And when dark secrets and temptations rise to the surface, the fallout might break them apart forever.

My Thoughts: Promising start, pissed me off in the end. The heroine of the story did something to ruin the book for me, and I wasn’t able to get over it. I did love the author’s writing and love a good marriage-in-crisis book, but I don’t think I’ll finish this series.

24846686 Filthy Beautiful Lust by Kendall Ryan

5 Stars

Pace Drake loves sex, and he makes no apology for getting what he wants, when he wants it. But when he meets, Kylie Sloan, he’s enthralled by her and begins to question his standard operating procedure. Kylie’s depth and determination make the hookups that fill his weekends seem empty and shallow. She doesn’t want or need anyone to take care of her and that only makes him want to care for her more.
Kylie’s trust in men has vanished. The last man she was with played ding-dong-ditch-it with her uterus and now the infant son he left her to raise alone is the only man she has time for. Pace wants to prove to her that he is one of the good guys, but can she really trust that his days of hitting it and quitting it are gone forever?

My Thoughts: I loved Pace’s story – may be my favorite of the series, and ultimately one of my favorite KR books.

One seemingly innocent promise. The one girl he could never forget.

Collins Drake exercises control over all facets of his life. From his business, to his relationships, to satisfying his physical needs, it all happens on his command. So when a woman shows up at his door and reminds him of a promise they made to each other when they were just ten years old, it shouldn’t have the ability to rock his entire world. Yet it does. Because Mia Monroe wasn’t just his childhood best friend, she wasn’t just the girl he lost his virginity to and hasn’t seen since, she’s the one exception to his perfect control. And piece by piece, she’s about to tear apart his carefully laid plans.

My Thoughts: Great end to the series. Although not my favorite, I enjoyed Collins book.

You know that feeling in the pit of your stomach that stays with you, then tears you apart slowly at first, and all at once shreds every fiber of your being?

It’s because you’re contradicting the universe.

Everything lines up so perfectly that you couldn’t have imagined it to work out better, but then you have to go and do everything humanly possible to ruin it because you can’t stand to have it go right?

That’s what I did.

I did it because there’s a darkness that surrounds me, and I think I want it there.

My name is Tate McKenna, and my soul is blacker than my heart.

My Thoughts: This book is a plagiarism of Tarryn Fisher’s books. I am sad I wasted my time reading it.

23555091The Stranger by Harlan Coben

3 Stars

Harlan Coben’s seven consecutive #1 New York Times bestsellers feature unrivaled depths of emotion combined with cutting-edge suspense plots that keep millions of readers turning pages deep into the night. In The Stranger, married parents Adam and Hannah confront the shocking secret on which their marriage is built—leaving Adam wondering whether he ever truly knew Hannah at all.

My Thoughts: Sadly this wasn’t my favorite Coben book. Took me until almost 60% to get into it and then it just didn’t hold the suspense factor I’m used to from Coben. Wasn’t thrilled with the story or the ending and bummed that this one was a bit of a disappointment, after I had anticipated it’s release for so long.

The Five Stages of Falling in Love by Rachel Higginson

5 Stars

Elizabeth Carlson is living in the pits of hell- also known as grief.

Her husband of eight years, the father of her four children and the love of her life, died from cancer. Grady’s prognosis was grim, even from the start, but Liz never gave up hope he would survive. How could she, when he was everything to her?

Six months later, she is trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered life and get the kids to school on time. Both seem impossible. Everything seems impossible these days.

When Ben Tyler moves in next door, she is drowning in sorrow and pain, her children are acting out, and the house is falling apart. She has no time for curious new friends or unwanted help, but Ben gives her both. And he doesn’t just want to help her with yard work or cleaning the gutters. Ben wants more from Liz. More than she’s capable of ever giving again.

As Liz mourns her dead husband and works her way through the five stages of grief, she finds there’s more of her heart to give than she thought possible. And as new love takes hold, she peels away the guilt and heartache, and discovers there’s more to life than death.

My Thoughts: A wonderfully emotional read. This book will touch you deep in your soul, it’s so well written and beautiful. I highly recommend it.

Beautiful Secret {Review}

Amazon Goodreads

Published: April 14, 2015 by Gallery Books

Goodreads Synopsis:

When Ruby Miller’s boss announces he’s sending her on an extended business trip to New York City, she’s shocked. As one of the best and brightest young engineers in London, she knows she’s professionally up to the task. The part that’s throwing her is where she’ll be spending a month up close and personal working alongside—and staying in a hotel with—Niall Stella, her firm’s top urban planning executive and The Hottest Man Alive. Despite her ongoing crush, Ruby is certain Niall barely knows she’s alive…until their flirty overnight flight makes him sit up and take notice.

Not one for letting loose and breaking rules, recently divorced Niall would describe himself as hopeless when it comes to women. But even he knows outgoing California-girl Ruby is a breath of fresh air. Once she makes it her mission to help the sexy Brit loosen his tie, there’s no turning back. Thousands of miles from London, it’s easy for the lovers to play pretend. But when the trip is over, will the relationship they’ve built up fall down?

My Review:

Max Stella still remains my favorite man in this series, but his brother, Niall comes in a very close second. Niall Stella is quite opposite of the typical confident, experienced male protagonist you normally read about. Although he is gorgeous, brilliant, wealthy, and let’s not forget British, he’s dealing with his failed marriage to a woman he has spent most of his life with, but lacked any real love and intimacy.

I couldn’t wait for Niall’s story after getting a little tease of him in Beautiful Beloved. This book was hilarious, sweet, romantic, steamy, and absolutely perfect!

Ruby is working as an intern at Niall’s company, and has been harboring a serious crush on him from day one. She lives for the moments she will get the chance to be in the same room as him, and then one day the unexpected happens and she’s told she’ll be going on a month long business trip to New York City with Niall – just the two of them.

“I’d been wrestling with my Niall Stella crush for six months, and I was pretty sure he still didn’t know that I was an employee at the firm rather than a regular takeout delivery girl.”

“For some reason I was unable to call him by only his given name. Niall Stella was a two-name honor, like Prince Harry or Jesus Christ.”

Ruby is awesome. She’s witty, confident, driven, and badass. I ADORED her. She was perfect for Niall, helping him see that he was capable of letting down his guard and getting close to someone, while getting past the pain and disappointment of his failed marriage.

“Do you think I’m weird?”
“Yes, weird in the sense that you are unexpected and I am rarely surprised by people. I think you rather exquisite.”

“Are you going to kiss me?”
He pulled away just enough to meet my eyes. “I fear I wouldn’t be able to stop,” he whispered. Life Alert? This is not a drill.

Of course there will be misunderstandings and bumps along the way, but I loved every minute of their growing relationship, even Niall’s reservations and constant need to put on the brakes. It’s rare that you read a book where the guy wants to take things slow, and there’s something so sweet and endearing about that. Niall Stella will steal your heart!

“We’ll talk later, yeah?”
“Okay.”
His teeth scraped my neck. “Good, because I know we need to talk. But right now I want to put my mouth on you and sing ‘God Save the Queen.'”

“His was the face I saw when I closed my eyes, when I needed to feel comfort or thrill, grounding or lust. Niall Stella’s face felt like home to me.”

There were so many lines I loved in this book, as evidenced in my review. Such a perfect end to this fantastic series.

Beautiful Stranger {Review}

17406944

Amazon Goodreads

Published: April 16, 2013 by Gallery Books

Goodreads Synopsis:

Escaping a cheating ex, finance whiz Sara Dillon’s moved to New York City and is looking for excitement and passion without a lot of strings attached. So meeting the irresistible, sexy Brit at a dance club should have meant nothing more than a night’s fun. But the manner—and speed—with which he melts her inhibitions turns him from a one-time hookup and into her Beautiful Stranger.

The whole city knows that Max Stella loves women, not that he’s ever found one he particularly wants to keep around. Despite pulling in plenty with his Wall Street bad boy charm, it’s not until Sara—and the wild photos she lets him take of her—that he starts wondering if there’s someone for him outside of the bedroom.

Hooking up in places where anybody could catch them, the only thing scarier for Sara than getting caught in public is having Max get too close in private.

My Review:

I freaking loved this book so much!

MAX STELLA. Everyone who has read this book will understand that every reason this book was so perfect was because of Max Stella. I read a lot of books, a lot of erotica and romance. I also have a lot of favorite couples. Max & Sara definitely went to the top of my list and I’m kicking myself for not reading this book a lot sooner than I did!

Sara is rightfully hesitant to be in any kind of relationship after her previous one ended in such disappointment and heartbreak. She moves to New York City to start over and just wants to have fun and live a little. I loved Sara – she was bad ass! She was the perfect heroine, never once annoying me and completely relatable. One night at a club, she hooks up with Max, a total stranger, and has every intention of leaving it as just a one night stand. But Max has other things in mind.

Max is a well-known womanizer. Charming, gorgeous, smart, and did I mention British?! In all his encounters with women, he just hadn’t met one that he felt he could connect with and that understood his desires and needs, until he meets Sara. Although they decide to continue their secret affair, feelings start to develop and they have to decide if they can both overcome their pasts in order to have a future together.

Oh how I loved Max Stella. The way he adored Sara and how incredibly sweet he was with her, but also so sexy and confident. He is definitely one of my favorite male characters ever.

This book was funny, steamy and just fantastic – I loved every minute of it!

After finishing Beautiful Stranger, I immediately picked up the next two books in the series, and also enjoyed them both immensely. I will be dropping everything to read the next book that comes out on April 15 about Max’s brother, Niall!
