Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon: Wrap Up

#Readathon Update

I had a blast, and I hope everyone who participated did, too.  Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who works so hard to make this happen. I even won a door prize, which was such an awesome surprise!

time

Between my books and reading with Sunnie, I managed around 12 hours off and on. I took a break when we went to visit friends for a few hours in the evening. When I got home, I could only manage to stay up for an hour, but then I got up early Sunday morning to get in some more reading. Overall I read a lot more than I ever anticipated! Just finishing a book is winning for me. I had fun following everyone’s posts on Intagram and Twitter, too.

food

PIZZA AND WINE. So, it was awesome.

adulting

I really did very minimal adulting, and had to make up for it on Sunday. But that’s okay! It was worth it.

books

I finished Fractured by Catherine McKenzie and started Always by Sarah Jio. Sunnie read 4 of the books in her stack! I took her to the bookstore yesterday and let her pick out a new book as her Readathon reward. 😉

Sign me up for the next one!

Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon: Game Plan

It’s almost time for Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon! I’ve been really excited for this day.

book

I have participated twice in the past. Once I ended up being really sick and couldn’t read as much as I wanted. The other time I was only able to read 4 hours, after everyone went to bed that night. Because it’s impossible to read all day with a toddler. I’m really excited that I’m able to join in this weekend!

So, how am I preparing for the readathon? Well, I haven’t done a whole lot yet, but here’s my game plan:

time

There’s no sleeping in in our house, so I will be up and ready to go for the 8 am start. Normally I would get in a run in the morning, but since I’m temporarily out of commission in the running department, I feel zero guilt about laying around all morning in my pj’s and reading. Saturday is officially my rest day, and I’m not even going to care if I don’t hit my 10,000 steps.

Originally we had no plans for the day, but we are now going to friends for a fire later in the evening, which I’m really looking forward to. So, I plan on getting as much reading done as I can until we leave (around 6 pm). And if I’m not too tired when we get home, I’ll stay up as long as I can to read. I definitely won’t be staying up all night, but I’d like to make it to midnight. It’s unrealistic to think I will be able to read ALL day – just a few hours is winning for me!

I probably won’t do too many challenges, if any, and I won’t do a blog post until it’s over. But I will be posting on social media and checking in with my friends who are participating! Follow me on Twitter and Instagram!

food

I’m not much of a snacker, but coffee, protein bars, and wine are must haves. We’re ordering pizza for dinner. Minimal effort and clean up!

adulting

I can’t relax and read all day if my house isn’t clean. Friday night I plan on getting my house cleaned so I won’t have to do it on Saturday. I’m putting off grocery shopping and laundry until Sunday. My hubby will be fishing for most of the day, so I won’t have to worry about him. When he gets home, he’ll be glued to the TV watching college football. 😉  And Sunnie is excited to do all the reading with me. When she’s not reading, she’ll most likely want to watch a movie and these days she’s really great about playing independently.

books

I am a moody reader and really have no idea what I’m going to be reading on Saturday. I want to pick something fairly easy that I know I’ll be able to read quickly. If I could read one book cover to cover, that would be awesome. I am going to look at my TBR list the next two days and get a few books in mind. Maybe a novella to break things up. I have been trying to read books from my Creepy October TBR, but have only managed one (and one DNF). No matter how hard I try, I just can’t stick with any TBR list!

I took Sunnie to the library last night and she picked out a nice big stack of books to read! She’s just as excited to read Saturday and keeps asking me if it’s time for the readathon. I love it!

hAPPY READING, FRIENDS!

#Readathon Wrap Up

And another Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon is in the books. I did get to read, as I hoped, and did meet my goal of finishing one of the books I was in the middle of for the past few weeks! Reading mojo is officially back!

The birthday party my daughter was supposed to go to yesterday was rescheduled due to poor weather (stupid Ohio), but my parents wanted her for a sleepover anyway. I spent the day with peanut, and after I took her to my parents around 4 pm, I quickly did our grocery shopping and went for a run. I didn’t get to actually sit down and start reading until 7:00 pm, but that was okay. I said I wasn’t going to go to bed until I finished my book, and that’s what I did. I was halfway through it, and 4 hours later I finished. I followed my friends readathon progress on Instagram and Twitter along the way and loved seeing everyone’s posts.

Books I read from & finished: Beautiful Secret by Christina Lauren

pic

I actually finished Marrow on Friday night. I was halfway through both Marrow and Beautiful Secret, so finishing one whole book this weekend makes me happy. I also met my goal of reading at least 3 hours – I managed to read for 4 hours straight, until that second glass of wine kicked in.

Because my reading time was limited, I focused solely on that and not blog hopping or doing the memes. The only one I felt like doing was the opening meme…

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today? Massillon, Ohio
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? I had one book I wanted to finish, which I did and I loved it – Beautiful Secret.
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? WINE. And we ordered my favorite pizza for dinner.
4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I’ve been blogging for a little over a year and love all of the awesome people I’ve met. I obviously love to read, but I’ve also recently become a runner and am loving it to the point of obsession. I plan to sign up for my first 5k in June!
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to? I participated two readathons ago, but was really sick that day. One of these days, I WILL get to participate the full 24 hours. That is my goal.

I hope everyone had fun and enjoyed the readathon!

Goals

1. Finish one of the books I started last week and haven’t had time to finish.

2. Read at least 3 hours. I know that doesn’t seem like much, but lately I’ve been lucky to read a maximum of a half hour a night. If I can just FINISH a book, I will call this day a success.

3. Visit other readathoners blogs and follow on Twitter.

Like I mentioned above, I don’t have any crazy goals for this readathon, and I know that realistically I won’t be able to stay up all night and read when I have a 4 year old to take care of the next day. But I really wanted to participate part of the day. I know that I won’t be able to even get started until late afternoon, taking a break to go out to dinner with my hubby, and then starting again after my daughter goes to bed. And if I make it to 11 PM, it’ll be a miracle. I’m doing it just for fun anyway, so I’m not going to focus on how many hours or pages I get read. I just want to READ.

I hope all of my blogging friends participating in the readathon have a great time! Happy Reading!

Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon

rapunzel-books

I went back and forth on whether or not I wanted to participate in the Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon this time. It is really hard to plan a day of reading these days, but then an opportunity presented itself. My daughter has a birthday party to attend most of the afternoon on Saturday, which my mom is taking her to (long story short – my mom knows the people and I don’t, so she has offered to take peanut to the party). As it looks now, I’ll be picking peanut up after dinner time, giving me a few free hours to READ. And this excites me, because I have had barely any reading time in a few weeks, not having finished a book in that long, either. And it’s starting to make me grumpy.

I don’t have any lofty goals, nor do I plan to read the full 24 hours. I’ll be happy to just finish one of the books I have started recently. Just to be able to sit down and read for a period of time longer than a half hour will be glorious.

I will post a few updates on my blog throughout the day, but not many. I think I’ll mostly be active on Twitter. If we’re not Twitter friends, please add me, so I can follow along with your readathon updates.
