About the book

Sometimes it is the one who loves you who hurts you the most.

Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up—she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true.

Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.

As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan—her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.

With this bold and deeply personal novel, Colleen Hoover delivers a heart-wrenching story that breaks exciting new ground for her as a writer. Combining a captivating romance with a cast of all-too-human characters, It Ends With Us is an unforgettable tale of love that comes at the ultimate price.

my thoughts

I honestly dreaded doing this review. Not because I didn’t like the book, because the opposite couldn’t be more true. This book was so incredible that I feel any review I give it will be inadequate. You’ve heard me praise Colleen Hoover’s books time and time again, and she’s without a doubt my favorite author. But what she gives us with her new book is a complete game changer. She has written a story so emotional and heartbreaking, yet hopeful and moving that any review from me could never do it justice.

Colleen has told her readers that this book is very personal to her, and I felt it. Raw and honest, it was one of the most eye-opening, emotional stories I’ve ever read. Her talent for writing a unique story never ceases to amaze me. But it’s also the way she makes me think and question things that makes her writing so exceptional.

It’s easy to judge and form opinions about a person’s situation when you haven’t experienced it first hand. Colleen does a fantastic job of putting the reader in the shoes of her characters, while packing an emotional punch. And while at times the situation is devastating and heart wrenching (pretty sure I held my breath the entire time I read this book), she weaves strength and courage into the story, giving the reader reason to hope.

I started going into more details about the story, but I really feel like the best way to read this book is by going in blindly, as I did. I had no idea what the book was going to be about, and after finishing it, I’m glad I didn’t. But be prepared for the emotional impact it will have on you – and keep the tissues close by! This is a book that will stay with you long after you finish the last page.

A beautiful story of bravery and hope – this book will change people’s lives.

Bottom Line

Without a doubt Colleen’s best work.

{Monthly Recap} – May

What a month!

I read 7 books in May, and every one of them was fantastic. How often does that happen?! Not very, so I’m really happy to have had so many great reads this month. I even found 3 new authors to love! I ran in 3 races in May, one being my first 10K. And I beat my PR this past weekend in my second 5K of the month. My daughter ‘graduated’ preschool and is officially a kindergartner. I celebrated the 2 year mark of my life changing weight loss journey. And the sun finally decided to come out and, dare I say, stay out?! May was incredible!

Things I’m looking forward to in June

My daughter has her first dance recital this weekend! Tonight is her dress rehearsal, and she’s so excited. After the recital we take a break from dance until September, with the exception of a 3-day camp in July.

We start summer hours at work this Friday, and I love that we have this awesome perk. If the weather cooperates, Sunnie and I will be spending the afternoon in my mother-in-law’s pool.

I plan to sign up for at least one 5K this month, and maybe another 10K. I haven’t looked out at the schedule to decide which ones yet. Now that the busyness of May is dying down, I will start to look ahead for the rest of the summer.

And there are SO MANY good books coming out in June! All of these are on my TBR, to hopefully read this summer. With the exception of One True Loves, which I’ve already read, and I recommend you buy immediately and read asap!!! It’s fantastic. I’m really excited for the new Emily Giffin book, and I’m currently reading the new Kristin Harmel book and enjoying it.

{Weekly Wrap Up} 5-20-16

It’s been a great week! The race last weekend was a lot of fun. And this week we’re finally seeing some sunshine and warmer temps, thankfully! The highlight of my week was receiving an ARC of Colleen Hoover’s new book It Ends With Us. Of course I immediately started reading it, and it went beyond all expectations. A very powerful and emotional book, I think it’s by far her best. And definitely my Best of 2016.

We have tryouts for next years dance competition team tonight and dance pictures on Sunday. I’m becoming a dance mom. 😉 Sunnie loves it, and I’m glad she’s found an activity she enjoys.

Feeling good and getting back into my routine again. Still trying to build up some endurance after so little cardio for a week, but I’m just happy to be getting in my runs almost every morning.

The 5k on Saturday with my best friend went great! The rain stopped just long enough for our race, and we finished in 29:06! My friend hadn’t finished her training in time and hadn’t even run 3 full miles yet, but she surprised me by kicking ass – it was a lot of fun!

#todayinsixwords: CoHo is going to break me

Well, that’s a wrap for another Bout of Books readathon, and I had fun. I loved the challenges this week, managed to finish one book, and I’m halfway through my current book. The only goal I didn’t meet was participating in one of the Twitter chats. Just didn’t have time this round. Overall, I’m happy with how much I read – this week always motivates me to read a lot more than I normally do in a week!

It Ends With Us is so good!! I can easily see why some have already stated this is her best book to date – it’s definitely emotional, and I can see it being my new favorite. I’m forcing myself to put it down and go to bed, or I will stay up all night to finish it, and regret it tomorrow when I can’t function at work.

#todayinsixwords: reading it slowly – it’s so good

I was elated to receive an ARC of Colleen Hoover’s new release on Friday night. So of course I stopped reading my current book to start it, because I just couldn’t wait. But it is the weekend, and adulting tends to get in the way, so I haven’t read as much as I hoped. I also admit that I’m reading the book slower on purpose, soaking in every word, because I know I’m going to be really sad when I finish it. And just so you know, it.is.amazing. But I expected nothing less.

Today should be a bit of a slower day, so I am hoping I’ll get to read more, and maybe even finish it. Hope everyone has been enjoying Bout of Books week!

#todayinsixwords: slow start – fantasy isn’t my jam

Started a new book last night, and went with one that wasn’t even on my original BoB list (shocker). The Bird and the Sword was surprise released this week, and after seeing so much love for it from fellow bloggers and Tarryn Fisher, I decided to try it. When the mood strikes, ya know? I’m one of the few who hasn’t read an Amy Harmon book and feel like I’m missing out. Well, I don’t read much fantasy these days, so these types of books are always a little slower for me to get into with all the funky names to get used to, and the weird world building to get a grasp on. It’s interesting so far, and right before I stopped reading last night it started getting pretty good. Unfortunately I was just too tired to keep going!

#todayinsixwords: happy that I finished one book!

Finished my first BoB book last night! And it was delightfully creepy and awesome. Definitely recommend it! Now I’m having a hard time deciding what to start next. One book that I’m considering wasn’t even on my original list. Gah, decisions!

#todayinsixwords: just didn’t have energy to read

Still not feeling the greatest and wasn’t able to read too many pages last night before I fell asleep. The good news is that I love this book, and I can just tell something big is about to happen. I’m excited to pick it back up, and hopefully finish it today. And hopefully today will be a better reading day for me!

#todayinsixwords: this book is creepy as hell

I’m fighting a wicked sinus infection, but thankfully I’m on antibiotics that are starting to kick in this morning. The only plus side to being sick was that I managed to read quite a bit of my book yesterday in between naps – it was the only thing to keep my mind off of feeling like crap. And this book is really good – creepy and suspenseful and hard to put down.
