W… W… W… Wednesday, hosted by Taking on a World of Worlds is a weekly meme showcasing what you just finished reading, what you are currently reading, and what you plan to start reading next. Except I’m changing it up a bit, since I can never plan what I’m reading next (moody reader). Instead I’m going to talk about a book I’ve recently added to my TBR that I’m excited about!

Another crazy week has flown by. I loved my first week of the new job. Sunnie’s dance competition over the weekend was awesome and she did great! I’ve worked from home the past few days and managed to catch up on stuff at home, after being out of town all weekend, but had little time to read. My poor peanut is fighting a wicked cough and stayed home from school yesterday. This back and forth weather we keep having is not helping us to stay healthy!

what i recently finished reading

Nada. With starting my new job and the dance competition over the weekend, I’ve had no time to read.

 what i’m currently reading

I am really enjoying Harry Potter, but I’m reading it slowly. And to break it up I needed something a little faster-paced, so I started Daisy in Chains. Thank you, Steph @ Stephanie’s Book Reviews for the recommendation! I’m completely hooked.

WHat i have recently added to my tbr

I’ve heard great things about this author, and still haven’t read her first book (but keep meaning to!). I like the sound of this one. Thanks, Netgalley!

 Reading anything good this week?

Five Things Friday ~ 3-3-17

1. this week in reading

I’m finally reading Harry Potter again. I read the first few books about 7 years ago and decided this is the year I finally finish this series. To be honest, it was following J.K. Rowling and her awesomeness on Twitter that gave me the kick in the pants I needed. Also a sweet deal for the box set on Book Outlet.

3. fun thing(s) from the week

Work may not seem like fun to most people, but I started my new job this week, and I’m really enjoying it. I worked more hours than originally planned, but that was mostly due to the fact my new laptop wasn’t set up correctly and the help desk had to spend a lot of time working out the kinks. It resulted in a few extra hours and later days, but now everything is fixed and working (KNOCK ON WOOD). I ended up getting to work from home on Wednesday, and got to leave today at 2:00. Now I sit here blogging and drinking a glass of wine. 😉 Plus I’m off on Monday, so yay!

Sunnie got her second report card from school, and I am so proud of her. I know it’s just kindergarten, but she loves school and it makes this momma happy.

I just signed my hubby and I up for our first 5K race together!! The race is on Mother’s Day weekend, and it’s a race I ran last year and loved. I’m really excited to be able to share that experience with him for his first race!

4. life happens

I have been trying to get back into a running routine after being sick two weeks and being on vacation. Although I did get a lot of steps while walking around Disney 2 days! My goal is always to run at least 5 days a week, and as long as I get a run in tomorrow morning, I will meet my goal for this week.

5. looking ahead

This weekend is our first dance competition! We are staying in the Youngstown area on Saturday and the girls have to dance bright and early on Sunday morning. Sunnie is so excited, not only to dance, but to stay in a hotel and hang out with her friends. And I’m excited to hang out with my girlfriends, too. One of the perks of Sunnie doing this competition thing is the friendships I’ve made with the other moms. It’ll be a fun couple of days!

And tonight my parents asked to have Sunnie for a sleepover – so the hubby and I are spending a much needed relaxing evening at home. The fire is going, the wine is flowing, and hubby is making me dinner (rigatoni with homemade meatballs…yum!). While he catches up on his tv shows, I plan to read and just enjoy the downtime. It feels like weeks since the last night we got to relax, so I’m going to enjoy every minute of it!

Happy Friday and enjoy your weekend!

What a week!! We had a fantastic time at Disney and made so many wonderful memories. Had a crazy busy weekend after we got back. And then I started my new job on Monday. The past few days have been insanely busy while I get settled and learn the ropes. Today I’m working from home and playing catch up on life. And unfortunately reading has taken a back seat for a few days. I will hopefully get to pick up a book sometime today. This weekend isn’t going to be any less crazy, as Sunnie has her first dance competition and we’re going out of town for it.

The Break Down was a bit disappointing to me. I did not enjoy it as much as the author’s debut, and maybe it’s because my expectations were too high or I wasn’t in the right mood. I LOVED LOVED LOVED On Second Thought. Review to be posted soon, but I can say without a doubt this is one of my top reads of 2017.

 what i’m currently reading

Believe it or not I have not finished reading the HP series. I stopped after book 3 about 7 years ago. I got a really great deal from Book Outlet for the boxed set and decided this is the year I finally finish this series! Of course, I haven’t had any time to read this week and am only a few chapters into it.

WHat i have recently added to my tbr

I actually added this to my TBR awhile ago when I was approved for it on Netgalley. But at the time I had no desire to read it. Now it’s getting a lot of buzz, and it has my attention.

{If You Liked…Then You Might Like} The Nightingale & From Sand and Ash

I’ve seen different variations of this post on several blogs and have been toying around with the idea to start doing my own post. Although these books share some similarities, they also stand out in their own way, and are ones I highly recommend reading.

If You Liked…. The Nightingale

Despite their differences, sisters Viann and Isabelle have always been close. Younger, bolder Isabelle lives in Paris while Viann is content with life in the French countryside with her husband Antoine and their daughter. But when the Second World War strikes, Antoine is sent off to fight and Viann finds herself isolated so Isabelle is sent by their father to help her.

As the war progresses, the sisters’ relationship and strength is tested. With life changing in unbelievably horrific ways, Viann and Isabelle will find themselves facing frightening situations and responding in ways they never thought possible as bravery and resistance take different forms in each of their actions.

Then you Might Like…. From Sand and Ash

Italy, 1943—Germany occupies much of the country, placing the Jewish population in grave danger during World War II.

As children, Eva Rosselli and Angelo Bianco were raised like family but divided by circumstance and religion. As the years go by, the two find themselves falling in love. But the church calls to Angelo and, despite his deep feelings for Eva, he chooses the priesthood.

Now, more than a decade later, Angelo is a Catholic priest and Eva is a woman with nowhere to turn. With the Gestapo closing in, Angelo hides Eva within the walls of a convent, where Eva discovers she is just one of many Jews being sheltered by the Catholic Church.

But Eva can’t quietly hide, waiting for deliverance, while Angelo risks everything to keep her safe. With the world at war and so many in need, Angelo and Eva face trial after trial, choice after agonizing choice, until fate and fortune finally collide, leaving them with the most difficult decision of all.

I loved these two books equally. They are also equally heartbreaking and if you’re a crier like me, you’ll be sobbing by the end of both. But it’ll be totally worth it!

{Review} Behind Her Eyes

about the book

Louise is a single mom, a secretary, stuck in a modern-day rut. On a rare night out, she meets a man in a bar and sparks fly. Though he leaves after they kiss, she’s thrilled she finally connected with someone.

When Louise arrives at work on Monday, she meets her new boss, David. The man from the bar. The very married man from the bar…who says the kiss was a terrible mistake but who still can’t keep his eyes off Louise.

And then Louise bumps into Adele, who’s new to town and in need of a friend, but she also just happens to be married to David. David and Adele look like the picture-perfect husband and wife, but then why is David so controlling, and why is Adele so scared of him?

As Louise is drawn into David and Adele’s orbit, she uncovers more puzzling questions than answers. The only thing that is crystal clear is that something in this marriage is very, very wrong, but Louise can’t guess how wrong―and how far a person might go to protect their marriage’s secrets.

My Thoughts

Everyone is talking about the ending to this book, and rightfully so. It’s pretty crazy. As in so crazy that it’s hard to believe. It’s surprising and bizarre and if you read this book you’ll have to suspend all disbelief to enjoy it. Thankfully I was able to do that, and I did enjoy it. I know that’s not easy for everyone to do, but I think it’s definitely worth reading.

Bottom Line

Suspenseful page-turner that will leave you speechless at the end.
